The Chilton’s Children was formed in 2003 to perpetuate the memory of James Chilton. James Chilton was born in England about 1556 and lived in Canterbury. Listed as a freeman of Canterbury in 1587, James Chilton was a tailor. Believed to have been the oldest passenger on the ship “Mayflower,” he signed the “Mayflower Compact” and died, as did his wife, during the first winter. Descent is proven through his eldest daughter Isabella and his youngest daughter Mary.

The same information will be provided about Abraham Samson, who was in Duxbury as early as 4 December 1638, his wives, their ancestors, and his descendants.

SMDPA News

(12Apr2009) Some time ago, the SMDPA Board was shown the original membership ledger. It was in bad condition although it had previously been restored. It was judged that no further treatment would be possible. The book was fragile, and further routine handling of it was not suggested. It was determined that it had to be copied, preserved and the data put in a readily accessible form.
