LANCASTER, PA – JULY 18, 2014 – A riveting and factual tale by British author Sue Allan, that describes previously unknown facts regarding the origins of this country’s founding, will be presented at a special luncheon buffet to be hosted at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Lancaster, in mid-August. Allan, an internationally known pre-colonial history expert and novelist, who has frequently commented on the origins of the Mayflower pilgrims, will give a rare and unique glimpse into the pre-sailing life of William Brewster, and his English residence, Scrooby Manor. The Society of Mayflower Descendants, and its Pennsylvania society, will host.
Allan is set to describe Brewster, his father William Brewster, Sr., along with brothers James and Henry Brewster. She has unearthed that Brewster’s father may have had more than one marriage, as well as tracing the heretofore unknown children of brother James Brewster. These findings represent new information for historians studying the pre-colonial era.
A distinguished author and lecturer, and a “go-to” expert for the BBC, Smithsonian Magazine, and other media, Allan’s latest book, In Search of Scrooby Manor, will be available at the gathering. Along with documentary filmmakers on the pilgrim’s journey, Allan will later be showcased, but not featured, at the early September Mayflower descendants 40th Mass. The Lancaster lecture, however, will be Allan’s exclusive offering on her historical research and its results during her visit to the states.
Officials of the General Society, Plymouth, will welcome Allan at the Lancaster lecture, which will also include a luncheon buffet and silent auction. Attendees will receive commemorative gifts of the lecture, the first that the society has held in many years.
Reservations are required for those interested in attending. Set for August 23rd complete details and registration information is available on the internet at the Pennsylvania Society’s website, www.sail1620.org.
