Thanksgiving 2010

Non-perishable foods for the needy were brought before the altar by several of our SMDPA members to be donated to Birdsboro Food Pantry at New Baptist Church in Birdsboro as well as the monetary offering collected. In addition, the parish also received the anonymously funded annual “Governor Winchell Carroll Fund” check for $1,000. After the Church Service, sixty-three members and guests attended a very delicious and well-prepared turkey dinner at the French Creek Golf Club, Elverson, PA. The presentation of the John M. Hunt, Jr. Distinguished Pilgrim Award to be given to our Immediate Past SMDPA Governor and long-time Community Relations Committee Chair, Winchell S. Carroll, was postponed until our Annual Meeting, January 29, 2011.

Project Preserves SMDPA Records

Some time ago, the SMDPA Board was shown the original membership ledger. It was in bad condition although it had previously been restored. It was judged that no further treatment would be possible. The book was fragile, and further routine handling of it was not suggested. It was determined that it had to be copied, preserved and the data put in a readily accessible form.

The Vrouwekerk – Now and Then

Some symbols – even when they exist as partial remains of an old church in the Dutch city of Leiden – may be considered by some as having no special value and just as it appears – an old ruin. To others it is a heritage, a place where ancestors walked, worshiped, shaped our lives and our ideals. This symbol is the Vrouwekerk!
